Love in our decks
People often ask about their relationships in their readings, and who can blame them? Love is, and should be the driving force of the universe. Be it romantic, parental of those deep friendships.
So where do we see this represented in our decks? Well of course the first thing that comes to mind is The Lovers card. Which is a good start-this card does show us a scene (in the Rider Waite deck) of what looks like the Garden of Eden: Adam and Eve, the angel overseeing things, and it can absolutely be about finding that deep karmic love (remember though just cause it’s karmic doesn’t mean it is easy). This card also represents the good choices we make that reflect our highest and best selves, so…that is also not a bad place to start with discussing finding the love we crave. We can see the reverse in the Devil card, which can be about those hot steamy addictive love affairs that aren’t necessarily the best for us, but man are they fun-and addictive…addictive that is the key word here!
Romantic love can be messy, and beautiful and nurturing. It is all those things, and we all want it. Love can be so many things besides romantic, but since it is the month of Valentines and all things romantic, let’s first take a look at all the romance in our decks!
The cups suit is the suit of love and emotion-representing the water element and all things flowing!
The ace of cups shows us new opportunities in love-someone coming into your life that can bring love, or maybe, its a shift in how you see someone? A new start either way-a new relationship that can deepen.
That love evolves as we come to the 2 of cups-we see this as the card of meeting your soul mate. I have been known to say this can be someone who may become that life long friend, or can become our romantic partner. I have heard it said that these figures are the fool and the high priestess meeting-which is a beautiful idea: our innocent new soul, our choices meeting our intuitions and evolved inner knowledge! Yes! They are looked over by and angel and that caduceus representing the health of this union. Definitely a good thing! It also reminds us of that angel in the Lovers card. Sensing a theme?
The three of cups to me is that beautiful love between friends-there for the celebration and the sadness too-to hold each other up!
A slide into the three of swords a card you often see - - heart with three swords through it- represent the healing that we can have when we find the triggers that broke our heart. This actually will make us more available to love as we release all the old pain.
In the 10 of cups we are reminded that even with an abundance of love, we need to take the time for be grateful for the times that we find those moments of joy, moments of beauty and all the love we have.
The page of cups is about learning how to nurture our own love of self. How do we fill our cup? How do we love ourselves unconditionally, with no shame? He seems to be speaking to the little fish in the cup, his subconscious? So much of us is buried deep down, perhaps this fish is helping the page find that, understand it, so he can know himself better and thereby fall more deeply in love with self.
Let’s talk about passion too here, since it is Valentines week! The wands suit is all about passion, it’s fire element speaks to us aboaut the sparks, and heat in our lives!
In this suit the 4 often represents marriage-it looks a Chuppah in a lovely outdoor Jewish wedding. And it definanetly could be, but it can also just represent joyful celebrations of any kind that you may be invited to take part in. A time when we take a step out of our everyday life! It reminds us of the fun and love in our life, celebrations are definitely important! These times rejuvenate us.
The court cards in this suit-especially the knights and kings are all about heat, passion and could be super passionate, but could also burn out-in the book WTF is Tarot by Bakara Wintner says the knight could be seen as the fuck boy and the king as the grown up version, who has harnessed his charisma…these guys may be similar in a relationship’s energy as the Devil is-super fun, great in bed, but not for the long haul! Or they may be too moody and quick to anger (remember fire). By the way her book is fantastic and a great resource.
As parental love we see the empress, the great mother-the creatrix full of comfort and fertile abundance! The emperor has been seen as the dad in the decks too!
We see deep generational love in the 10 of pentacles, everyone is there, even the dogs, full of love and mutual support!
We see love in so many aspects in our decks, and just like in life it shows up in many ways.
I hope you take note of all of it, and relish in it.
