My Reiki Journey

We all have those moments in our lives when we sense a shift coming. Something clicks.

Mine when I was working as a manager of a sweet bookstore, but knew there was more. There was an itch. A call. As Carly Mountain says in her book Inanna Descent and Rising - we feel a moan from deep within that there is more. (I highly recommend that book by the way).

I wanted to do spiritual and healing work. Was tired of worrying about the profit and loss statements and disciplining others, yes I loved books, still do, but retail? Not so much. So here I was. Reading a resume of someone that was doing exactly what I wanted. Why wasn’t I? I still remember this woman’s name and that moment. She never did come to work with us, I always hope she is out there doing great works.

Our friends listen to our longings,, and notice these things in us, and one friend in particular saw a posting for a class on reiki-I immediately signed up for this class taught by a nurse, who taught me so much that first weekend!

In the meantime I devoured every book I could read on the subject. Energy medicine became my language. Seeing how the chakras worked and connected out physical selves to the emotional and spiritual stuff we all feel, how stress and trauma can effect this connection, how our actions and our thoughts and practices can affect us-wow just wow!

Before our first class I found a local spa and had some sessions, and feel even deeper I love with this practice.

My daughter was 16 at the time, and joined me on this quest. I was hooked after the first attunement. In this class we met our spirit guides, we learned about chakras, and we loved it. I cried my first attunement, and at many others. My dreams were deeper and I could start working in the healing world, something my first tarot teacher told me was my calling. This led me to pursue yoga, massage school and my masters in metaphysical studies.

Reiki brought me closer to myself, and instroduced me to so many wonderful people and teachings. I went on to get my Reiki Master training a few years later, have gone onto teach others, and to help others gain peace and clarity. It is portable, knows no time limit and needs no equipment. It is available to all, and is something wonderful to have in your healing tool belt.
